As tissue paper is flexible and easy to mould and shape, it is ideal for packing, padding and interleaving collections.

Unbuffered tissue paper preferable for storing protein-based materials such as wool, silk, leather, fur and natural history collections. Unbuffered tissue is recommended for photographic material such as albumen prints and cyanotypes, and also items where the fibre content is unknown.
